Barley: Final treatment on the flag leaf

The development stages of barley currently range from BBCH 32 to 39. For the final treatment, the flag leaf should be fully unfolded. The aim of the final treatment is to keep the barley healthy until maturity and also provide protective protection against Ramularia. Ideally, there should be a switch to azoles to maintain resistance management against net blotch. Infections are possible due to precipitation. Due to the prolonged dryness in March and early April, the current disease pressure and initial infection are lower than in previous years. However, increased precipitation around the Easter holidays has allowed for infections. So far, dwarf rust, powdery mildew, and sporadic net blotches can be found. Infections with Rhynchosporium are also noticeable due to the precipitation (see proPlant maps). Ramularia can be expected in the further course. When BBCH 39 is reached, a combination of 1.25 - 1.5 l/ha Balaya + 1.5 l/ha Folpan 500 SC, 1.2 l/ha Ascra Xpro + 1.5 l/ha Folpan 500 SC, or the Avastel Pack (1.5 l/ha Pioli + 0.75 l/ha SORATEL) + 1.5 l/ha Folpan 500 SC is recommended. Other folpet-containing products (e.g. Doktus or Phillip 50) can also be used with the same application rate. In crops with a higher initial infection of, for example, dwarf rust, Revytrex with 1.4 - 1.5 l/ha + 0.4 - 0.5 l/ha Comet is recommended. Again, the flag leaf should be fully extended for treatment. Do not treat before the flag leaf is fully extended. In crops where the flag leaf is just emerging or further behind in development, it is recommended to wait. In general, very good leaf health can be observed this year, especially in the eastern federal states. Risk of infection with net blotches is present in central Germany due to precipitation. (Image source: proPlant) Risk of infection with dwarf rust in barley is significantly higher in the northern and eastern parts of Germany.
