Brazilian cow Marília sets new world record with 127.57 kg of milk in 24 hours at the Torneio-Leiteiro in São Paulo.
Marília, a Brazilian cow, set a new world record for milk production at the 34th Torneio-Leiteiro in São Paulo, according to Dairy Global. Within 24 hours and three milkings, she produced a total of 127.57 kilograms of milk. This record surpassed the 39-year-old Guinness World Record held by the Cuban cow Ubre Blanca and was officially recognized.
Marília belongs to the Girolando breed, a cross between 5/8 Holstein-Friesian and 3/8 of the Indian Zebu breed Gir. This combination combines the high milk production of Holstein with the robustness and longevity of Gir-Zebu, which is well adapted to Brazil's climatic conditions. The cow was born in 2014 on a farm in the state of São Paulo.
The breeders André and Gustavo Souza highlight Marília's good fertility: she has given birth to eight female offspring and one calf. Additionally, she has shown promising results in in vitro fertilizations, with 16 embryos collected in a recent embryo collection.
This record, according to Dairy Global, underscores the advancements in modern dairy cattle breeding achieved through targeted breeding programs, optimal feeding, and adapted housing conditions.
